About Us
Phew, it’s been a while since we last wrote…ok, a month, but a lot’s happened since then, what with all the Christmas parties and holiday sales causing more human traffic than Cardiff can shake a candy cane stick at!
Having had some post Christmas turkey time to reflect upon a phenomenal 2011, it just wouldn’t be right if we didn’t give a shout out to all the fiercely hot nights that have contributed to a dazzling year such as Juju Nations, the Candela Crew, Cardiff City Circus, The Jazz Revhŵ, Vertigo, Harvest, AYOR events to mention but a few plus our resident Péchés Mignons, delivering a mighty punch of funk, hip hop, reggae, jazz, blues and just for a change, blue-grass this coming January!
There have been micro-festivals galore including Birkenstock, Piers Bramhall’s Welsh holiday and Bijou, reggae, Brazilian and gypsy balkan discotheques, open mics, folk, films and ‘First Degree Burns’! There are just so many of you to mention, we love you all!
So what about the year ahead?! The ukuleles are relentless, Fat City won’t rest till we’ve shed a few pounds on the dance floor, Ifor Bach are thoroughly enjoying their second home and the hilarious (and some not so) Vagabond comedians at are still pleading for laughs!
This January, we have some extra special treats in store! Look out for The Old Tire Swingers on a whirlwind tour from California who will be stopping by to dazzle you with their lightning fast bluegrass fingers. Johnny Cage and the Voodoo Groove challenge you to resist their lustful eyes and fiery charms and Omega66 are set to fire the place up for Mise en Bouche’s Birthday Special with Wah Wah DJ Dom Servini!
We’d like to thank everyone from the bottom of our feathery hearts including the glorious staff at Gwdihŵ for all the ‘butter beer’, ‘Gwdibombs’, brownies and ‘Movember’ moustache growth (ladies) but most importantly, you! From the faithful regulars, to the ones who popped in at 8 just for one and stayed till 3, to those who were just interested enough to sign up for this newsletter, we hope to coax you away from the fire in one of the coldest months of the year to bask in the Gwdihŵ glow of spectacular talent and friendly faces!
Happy New Year one and all!
