This one is going to be large!

This month we want to present the best of your talents on the intimate Gwdihw stage. Come down with your guitars and fiddles and didgeridoos and show us what you’ve got. For those acoustic night regulars this is a fresh audience for you & for rookies the toasty-warm gwdihw atmosphere will settle any jangling nerves. Please drop us a message to book a slot and/or get there nice & early on the night.

We’re starting at 7pm to try and get as many people on as possible before we let the Dj’s loose on the decks for the party end of the night. With the tasteful Superfly gentlemen and the legendary DJ Tuna Afro delivering beefy beats, the dancing is inevitable.

To keep your restless hands busy til then we’re going to have some stuff out to make your own flying object art attack style. Marks for style, originality and flying ability! The winner, as usual, wins a gwdihw meal for two and the admiration of all.

It’s only £2 entry and all proceeds are going to the Malawi Eagles Project helping the poorest communities with education and food management.

Anyway hope you can come down & help us pack the place out for a evening of joy & merriment

Jonny & G

[ Wednesday, February 24; 8:00 PM; ] 'Fat City is a monthly music night which raises money for a new charity each month. The night incorporates all sorts of funk, soul, hip hop, jazz and world music with dancing, crafts and the occasional live band.

This month’s creative crafts competition…Egg painting/ decorating
(Free meal for two at the Gwdihw for the most creatively decorated egg!)

All proceeds from this event will be going to the Mind charity (more information can be found here… http://www.mind.org.uk/about)

Last month we raised £300 for the Haiti disaster appeal

After the success of Fat City’s launch night, we’re back, and this time its set to be an even bigger, better and more creative night of music, dancing, drinking and crafts!

Thanks right, Fat City is back at the Gwdihw and this month we have the incredible Cougar, Cardiff’s premier afro beat band, playing live!

The night is set to be a night of great music, egg painting, groovy dancing and much more, so make sure you don’t miss out and get yourself down to the Gwdihw early.

Not only do we have The Cougar playing live, but we will have our regular DJs, Gareth and Jonny playing throughout the night. You can expect anything and everything from funk to soul, hip hop to world, latin to jazz and everything else in between. There will be plenty to dance to so make sure you pack your dancing shoes

This is the second Fat City Night (check out photos of Fat City No.1 below) and if you came to the first one you’ll know what Fat City is all about. If you are new to the night, here’s a little biog of what Fat City is…

‘Fat City is a monthly music night which raises money for a new charity each month. The night incorporates all sorts of funk, soul, hip hop, jazz and world music with dancing, crafts and the occasional live band. A creative crafts competition features each month with a brand new theme and brand new prizes. The night promises a relaxed, fun and creative night completely different to anything else on offer in Cardiff.’

NB: please not that the Gwdihw is quite a small venue so space is limited, make sure you get in early to ensure you don’t miss out on all the fun.

P.S if you don’t have a clue where the Gwdihw is… check out the map in the ‘Find Us’ section

—————————————————————————————-

The Cougar… Afro beat from the heart of Cardiff!

The Cougar works to move people’s feet and bodies. We want people to swing to our music. The blend of rhythms and melodies create an irresistible dance.

Wayne and Dan are the Cougar’s drum and bass backbone. Victor creates melodies on the guitar and provides lead vocals. Marco from Andalucia produces the percussion to create movement.

As a performing band we have played all over UK including, Tower Bridge Festival, support to Buena Vista Social Club, Machester United Stadium Chapter Arts Centre, St. Donats, Toucan Club, One Tribe Festival, Jazz, Bop and Blues Festival.

And when you’re not dancing, there’s always the opportunity to get creative. Pritt stick, fuzzy felt, beer and music…what more could you want from a night out.

At Fat city you can regress to your childhood, paint faces on eggs, make cardboard monsters, pipe cleaner animals and scary mask in our monthly creative crafts competition. Prizes, courtesy of the Gwdihw are available for the best ones!
