Altogether now: Fight! Fight! Fight!

Balloon, purveyors of music, literature and all round good times presents an evening of couplets and cutlets with their very first Summerslam BBQ.

With spoken word literally coming out of the mouths of people all over our capital at the moment, we have enlisted a group of poetic pugilists that would have Don King himself reaching for the afro comb and rhyming dictionary, as multiple slam winners and award worriers, Martin Daws, Leeum Johnson, Dean Nicholls, Kayo Chingonyi, Matt Black and Joe Kriss, battle it out round the back of Cardiff’s Gwdihw Cafe Bar on Tuesday 20th July.

For those of you who like a bit of meat with your meter, we are also very excited to have the gourmets of Gwdihw providing the BBQ part of our Summerslam (with veggie and vegan options for you alliterative types) plus local artisan brews and all manner of summer swiggery.

If that’s not enough, we also have live music from Coke, Scotty consecutively stopping one record then starting another, and a chance for you yourself to get up and show us what you’ve got with our Balloon Postcard Lottery. Don’t worry, we’ll be gentle.

Oh, and did we mention it’s free entry?

That’s right: TOTALLY FREE TO GET IN.

Now, those of you who have been to previous Balloon events will know what to expect but for those of you still unsure, think of us as a big night out with your mates, only with more words.

Be great to see you there.

Balloon’s Summerslam BBQ. Gwdihw. Cardiff. Tuesday 20th July. Fresh verse and tasty cuts.

This Balloon event is supported by Academi. Cheers Academi!

Calling all Rude Boys and Rude Girls. Time to dig out those sharp suites, stingy brim hats and come skankin’ wid us., in association with Gwdihw, proudly present -

‘Ska-Discothèque’

Hotter than July, your sensational hosts invite you to take One Step Beyond and join us for some fun dance action.

Setting the night alight are Skadiff’s very own Ska band TATTSYRUP. Rim shot drums, flute and saxophone kick up dust in this home grown sextet of Ska. These guys have been spreading smiles and outrageous dances around south Wales since 2004, after they light-fingered themselves to both the name and the eccentricities of the League Of Gentleman shopkeepers Tubbs and Edward. TATTSYRUP are true to the spirit of 2Tone with their stomping mix of classic ska tunes and original material and have had some ace support slots too, with The Beat, The Specials’ guitarist Roddy Radiation & the Skabilly rebels in Bristol. Setting summer parties and festivals on fire across Wales and the South West is what they do best.

http://www.tattsyrup.co.uk

The night will be Specials. It will be pure Madness. Welcome to the House of Fun.

When TATTSYRUP have tooted their last horn and skanked their last stride, our two DJ Nutty Boys will keep you on the dancefloor with a wide choice of classic pleasers. Play dem cuts Mr Selecta.

**Dave Norton (Candela) : Primed and ready to surprise and tantalise, a genuine floor filler maestro.

**Toclifrench (Péchés Mignons) : Bringing you cultured tracks that aim to tease, just the way you like it.

Péchés Mignons’ Ska-Discothèque will be a cheeky, funny and brilliant night. You really must come! After all, it would be plain Bad Manners if you don’t

This month we want to present the best of your talents on the intimate Gwdihw stage. Come down with your guitars and fiddles and didgeridoos and show us what you’ve got. For those acoustic night regulars this is a fresh audience for you & for rookies the toasty-warm gwdihw atmosphere will settle any jangling nerves. Please drop us a message to book a slot and/or get there nice & early on the night.

We’re starting at 7pm to try and get as many people on as possible before we let the Dj’s loose on the decks for the party end of the night. With the tasteful Superfly gentlemen and the legendary DJ Tuna Afro delivering beefy beats, the dancing is inevitable.

To keep your restless hands busy til then we’re going to have some stuff out to make your own flying object art attack style. Marks for style, originality and flying ability! The winner, as usual, wins a gwdihw meal for two and the admiration of all.

It’s only £2 entry and all proceeds are going to the Malawi Eagles Project helping the poorest communities with education and food management.

Anyway hope you can come down & help us pack the place out for a evening of joy & merriment

Jonny & G

As delicious as the year’s first really warm day, Gwdihw and Péchés Mignons turn up the heat for a tantalising taste of summer, hot on the heels of April’s sensational ‘Afro Discothèque’. As cheeky as the day is long, we lay before you a one day party so full of quirky, satisfying, hip shaking fun that you will be certain that your Summer of Music started right here!

Peruse our luscious line-up of live music and DJs below and look forward to everything you have come to expect from your irrepressible hosts, Péchés Mignons.

**Boris
The word ‘eclectic’ was invented for this upbeat party band. Where else could you expect to hear Rockabilly, Reggae, Dub, Drum and Bass, Rock and Roll, Folk and Eastern European Folk in the same set? Expect to dance. Lots!
