For our first show of 2018, we welcome the ethereal, haunting vocals of Aniya Savage to Gwdihw!
Ethereal, haunting vocals paint pictures of Aniya Savage’s multi-cultural life. Her songwriting tells stories that are entrenched in vivid emotion, with a voice likened to Joni Mitchell and Aurora.
Aniya was interviewed by New York’s DMNDR, shedding light on her new single ‘Albatross’, which they filmed live with a full band. A song about encouragement, offering an alternative perspective to detrimental self-reflection, could only have arisen out of Aniya’s experiences volunteering in refugee camps in Dunkirk and Greece.

James Ewan Tait
James Ewan Tait is a weirdo crooner from North Yorkshire who lives and works in Sheffield and is influenced by the likes of Nick Cave, Jeff Buckley, and Otis Redding. Although an “enigmatic old hand on the Sheffield indie circuit,” Tait recently recorded his debut EP, Everything, Loads, All the Time, Forever, with Sheffield-based producer Brett Womersley. Tait and Womersley took an experimental approach to arranging and recording the EP, with Tom Waits, Motown, and Syd Barrett as reference points, and incorporating a number of session musicians. A successful crowd funding campaign raised double the target and funded the pressing and release of the EP on Pigeon Hands, the label set up by Tait and Womersley. A sold-out launch show at The Lamplight Club in Sheffield celebrated the release in September ’17, at which Tait performed with a five-piece band, and the EP received a highly favourable review in Now Then Magazine the following month.
In October 2017 Tait filmed and recorded a performance of his song ‘Lime Grove’, demonstrating the three-amp set up currently utilised in his solo live performances. The video is going to be premiered by music blog For The Rabbits in January 2018.
Tait and Womersley are currently arranging and recording music for the follow up EP, with a selection of session musicians, and are beginning preparations to release other artist’s music on their Pigeon Hands imprint.
Tait plans to tour extensively in 2018, around the UK and Europe.
