We are constantly striving to provide our customers with great coffee. In January 2010 we changed our coffee brand from Lavazza to Daterra. This not only gave us even better tasting coffee, but also allowed us to trace back the coffee to the farm it was produced on. Below is some more information on Daterra.
Daterra is committed to protecting the planet and its inhabitants. Its international certifications are the recognition of its responsible approach to coffee growing.
Daterra’s sustainable practices focus on:
Optimizing the water-use in coffee processing;
Treating and recycling the used water;
Producing and using organic fertilizer (Bio-Mass);
Preserving native forests, wildlife and waterfalls;
Educating local communities about the importance of ecology.
50% of its lands have been designated as Natural Preservation Areas.
Caffe Monte Negro is blended from single estate beans, sweet yellows from the Daterra Estate, Brazil and bourbon from Finca Los Altos, Nicaragua. As espresso it has a touch of sweet acidity, notes of cocoa and toasted almonds and a full bodied buttery mouth feel. In cappuccino those cocoa and nutty flavors shine through with hints of creamy caramel.
Finca Los Altos is owned by Roberto Bandana, Roberto has been working within local communities building houses and schools he recently installed hydro electric power and has taken steps to vastly improved sanitation.
